RustDesk Server installation

Install RustDesk on Rocky 8.x using:

1. Create an instance with public IP.
2. Map DNS to public IP (IPv4 / IPv6 or both)
3. Based on preference:
   • Set hostname
   • Configure history retention
   • Add swap
   • Configure postfix and logwatch
4. Install wget

   dnf -y install wget

5. Download installation script, set execute permissions and execute it

   wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/dinger1986/rustdeskinstall/master/install.sh
   chmod +x install.sh
   ./install.sh

6. When prompted for IP/DNS (or domain), choose 2 if DNS entry has been created for public IP
7. In case of DNS entry enter preferred domain name eg (remote.example.com)
8. When prompted for "Relay not set yet" select "yes" to download configs and setup http server
9. Finally press any key to complete installation

   Note the public key shown as part of installation output. It would have to be copied in clients for them to work

   Also note that admin username and password for accessing http://<fqdn>:8000/ based client download

10. Allow required rustdesk port via firewall

    firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=8000/tcp --permanent
    firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=21115-21119/tcp --permanent
    firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=21116/udp --permanent
    firewall-cmd --reload

Rustdesk client installation on Rocky 8.x

1. Download CentOS 8 or Rocky 8 rpm package from https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/releases or https://rustdesk.com/
2. Enable Raven using

   wget https://pkgs.dyn.su/el8/base/x86_64/raven-release-1.0-1.el8.noarch.rpm
   dnf -y localinstall ./raven-release-1.0-1.el8.noarch.rpm

3. Install rustdesk client using:

   dnf -y localinstall ./rustdesk-1.1.9-fedora28-centos8.rpm

4. If you see below error

       evdev/input.c:10:10: fatal error: Python.h: No such file or directory
        #include <Python.h>

       compilation terminated.

   Then notice -I in above command as ' -I/usr/include/python3.6m'. Then install appropriate python devel using:

   dnf -y install python36-devel python39-devel
   
   dnf -y remove rustdesk
   dnf -y localinstall ./rustdesk-1.1.9-fedora28-centos8.rpm

5. Open rustdesk client and go to ... -> ID/Relay server. In ID give FQDN of rustdesk server setup as above
6. Do similar setup on another client
7. Try to connect.

Rustdesk client installation on Windows

To install rustdesk on windows there are two options:

1. Download rustdesk client from Internet ( https://rustdesk.com/ ) and install it. Then set values for ID/Relay server, API Server and Key as per installation.
2. Login into rustdesk server using admin username and password on port 8000 as indicated after installation. Then download the powershell script for installation. The advantage of using powershell script is that it will configure ID/Relay server, API server and key automatically after installation..
