Deploy vRealize Automation 7.3 appliance

  1. Download vra ova file (eg VMware-vR-Appliance-7.3.0.536-5610496_OVF10.ova ) and deploy ova file using vcenter
  2. Choose appropriate template folder and compute resource
  3. On review details click next
  4. Accept license agreement and click next
  5. Select appropriate storage and click next.
  6. Select desired network and click next
  7. On customizep page enable SSH into appliance. Give approprite hostname, root password and networking details. Finally click next.
  8. Click "Deploy" to deploy the ova appliance.
  9. Once deployment is complete, power on the appliance
  10. Create two separate Windows machines for iaas and sql.
    Both of these machines should be part of AD domain and MSDTC remote should be enabled.
    1. For configuring MSDTC security settings for remote access search for "Component services".
    2. Go to "Computers" (Double click) -> " My Computer" -> Distributed Transaction Coordiantor -> Local DTC.
    3. Right click on "Local DTC" and select properties.
    4. Go to Security tab.
    5. Select "Network DTC Access".
    6. Under it select all four checkboxes. Leave other options as it is and click ok.
    7. On warning click "yes".
    8. On SQL machine remote access over TCP/IP should be enabled Refer Setup MS SQL 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2. On IAAS machine "Web Server IAAS" role must be installed using "Add roles or features" wizard of server manager.
  11. Open https://<vra-fqdn-or-ip>:5480/ and login with root credentials given during ova deployment
  12. The vRA Installation wizard should start automatically on login.
  13. On Wizard click next to begin.
  14. On license agreement page accept license and click next
  15. Under deployment type choose "Minimal deployment" and leave "Install Infrastructure as a service" selected and click next.
  16. From "Installation Prequisites page" download "IAAS" installer setup and install it on IAAS machine.
    The installation wizard https://<vra-fqdn-or-ip> can be opened from IAAS machine also without causing issues to download the setup.
    1. During setup enter vra address (eg https://vra.rnd.com:5480), root username and password.
    2. Click on "Load" and confirm fingerprint.
    3. Click next.
    4. Give local administrator password. Click on "Install".
    5. If you re-opened wizard in IAAS VM, directly close that browser without using logout/cancel option of Wizard.
  17. On the IAAS page change option to "Use time server" and enter local time server.
    1. Click "Change time settings".
    2. Click next.
  18. On "Prerequisite checker" click run. Some pre-requisites will not match.
    1. Click on "Show details".
    2. Click Fix to fix all issues.
    3. Click 'Run' again to verify the fixes.
    4. Click next to continue after all issues are fixed.
  19. For vrealize Automation Host enter FQDN "eg vra.rnd.com". Note that vra setup cannot be done without FQDN using IPs. For vra use of FQDN is must.
  20. Give administrative password for default tenant account and click next.
  21. For IAAS Web address mention FQDN of iaas server.
    1. Give AD credentails for login.
    2. Give desired Database Security password.
    3. Click validate and click next.
  22. For Microsoft SQL Server give server FQDN (eg sql.rnd.com).
    1. Choose database name eg (vra).
    2. Create new database with default settings and use Windows authentication. Click validate.
    3. If the validation for "Log on as a service" fails for Domain administrator then login into iaas machine.
      1. Then open "Local Security policy".
      2. Go to Security Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment.
      3. Open "Log on as a service" and add both domain administrator user and group.
  23. On "Distributed Execution Managers" page leave defaults (Instance name: DEM) and click validate. If valiation succeds click next.
  24. On Agents page leave defaults (Agent Name: vCenter, Endpoint: vCenter, Agent Type: vSphere) and validate. If valiation succeds click next.
  25. For appliance certificate use "Generate certificate" if self-signed certificate is acceptable and enter various details. Click "Save Generated Certificate". Click "Next".
  26. For web certificate also do same as appliance certificate.
  27. On Validation screen click "Validate". After successful validation click next.
  28. On "Create snapshots" page create snapshots for vra, iaas and sql including memory
  29. On "Installation details" page click Install
  30. On "Licensing" page enter license key and click "Submit key". If key is valid click next.
  31. On Telemetry page opt-out of CEIP and click next
  32. On Post-Installation Options choose "Configure Initial Content" and click next. On Initial content configuration page give desired password and click "Create Initial Content". After content is created click next.
  33. Click finish to complete the wizard
  34. On vra 5480 web management interface all services should be in registered status.
