Proxmox – New Import Wizard for Migrating VMware ESXi VMs
The VM was migrated from the ESXi host to Proxmox using the Proxmox Import Wizard by adding the ESXi storage and importing the selected VM directly into the target Proxmox storage. After import, the VM booted successfully and network connectivity was verified.
I. Adding VMware ESXi Storage to Proxmox
Navigate to:
Datacenter → Storage → Add → ESXi
- In the Add ESXi dialog, enter:
- ID (unique name)
- Server (FQDN or IP)
- Username / Password
Enable Skip Certificate Verification if ESXi uses self-signed certificates. Click Add. After adding, the ESXi storage will appear under Storage in Proxmox.
II. Importing a VMware ESXi VM into Proxmox
Click on the newly added ESXi storage under your Proxmox node. You will see all virtual machines available on the ESXi datastore. Select the VM you want to migrate and click Import. The Import Guest wizard will open.
